New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday condemned the recent surge in terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing the NDA government of failing to ensure security and peace in the region. Gandhi’s remarks, shared on X in Hindi, called out the government’s policies, asserting they have been ineffective in securing the Valley.

Condemnation of Attacks and Tribute to Martyrs
Expressing sorrow, Gandhi stated, “The news of the cowardly attack on an army vehicle in Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir, resulting in the martyrdom of our brave soldiers, is extremely saddening. Two porters also lost their lives in the attack. I pay homage to the martyrs and express my deep condolences to all the bereaved families.”

“Policies Have Failed to Establish Peace”
The Congress leader emphasized that contrary to the Centre’s promises, Jammu & Kashmir remains under the grip of terror. “The policies of the NDA government at the centre have completely failed to establish security and peace in Jammu & Kashmir. Contrary to their claims, the reality is that the region continues to live under the shadow of terror activities, attacks on our soldiers, and targeted killings of civilians,” he remarked.

Urgent Call for Action
Gandhi urged the central government to act swiftly to restore peace and protect both military personnel and civilians in the Valley. He highlighted that the ongoing violence demands immediate responsibility from the ruling government to bring stability to Jammu and Kashmir.

Recent Wave of Terror Attacks in J&K
The attack Gandhi referred to occurred on Thursday, where two soldiers and two civilian porters lost their lives after a terrorist ambush on army vehicles in Baramulla. This incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks in the region:

  • On October 24, terrorists killed six non-local labourers and a local doctor at the Z-Morh tunnel site in Ganderbal.
  • On October 18, the bullet-riddled body of a labourer from Bihar was found in Shopian district.
  • Earlier, on October 9, the body of a territorial army soldier was found in Anantnag after he and his colleague were abducted by terrorists.

These incidents have heightened security concerns and intensified scrutiny over the government’s approach to handling security issues in Jammu and Kashmir.
