Texas: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi began his three-day visit to the United States on Sunday, arriving in Dallas, Texas, where he received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora and members of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC). The visit marks Gandhi’s first trip to the U.S. following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Sharing his excitement on social media, Gandhi posted pictures of his reception and expressed his gratitude. “I am truly delighted by the warm welcome I’ve received in Dallas, Texas, USA, from the Indian diaspora and members of the Indian Overseas Congress,” he wrote. He also added, “I eagerly look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions and insightful conversations that will further strengthen the bond between our two nations during this visit.”
Gandhi’s visit is seen as an opportunity to engage with the Indian community abroad and foster dialogue on key issues. His schedule includes a stay in Dallas on September 8 and then meetings in Washington, D.C., on September 9-10.
Earlier, Sam Pitroda, the chief of the Indian Overseas Congress, had announced Gandhi’s visit and noted the eagerness among the Indian community, technocrats, business leaders, and students to interact with him. Pitroda emphasized the interest from various sectors in hearing from Gandhi, particularly those involved in the tech cities governed by Congress, such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune.
“There are many events planned with a variety of people,” Pitroda shared, adding that the business and technology communities are especially keen to engage in discussions with Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi’s U.S. visit is expected to generate significant interest both abroad and back home, as political observers anticipate potential headlines and discussions stemming from his engagements. The Congress leader has been actively working to build momentum following the 2024 elections, addressing key public interest issues and gaining support.
In June, Gandhi was appointed Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, following approval from the Congress Working Committee (CWC). Having won elections from two constituencies—Rae Bareli and Wayanad—he chose to retain Rae Bareli, allowing his sister, Priyanka Gandhi, to focus on Wayanad.
Gandhi’s visit to the U.S. is expected to be brief but impactful, with many looking forward to his interactions with the Indian community and potential discussions on international and domestic issues.
