New Delhi: At a press conference on Monday, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government is protecting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, asking why he is not resigning, and said Delhi has been turned into a “jail” with people being stopped from joining the agitation.
“Trains and Buses Being Stopped”
Gandhi said the opposition’s movement against alleged vote theft has been going on for four to five days. He said trains and buses are being halted and the government is making a very big mistake. Claiming that police personnel are also troubled, he said 50 percent of them are with the opposition, and that personnel of Delhi Police, CRPF and ITBP are upset about why young people are being beaten. He also claimed that 200 government officials are in touch with the opposition and passing on information.
Says CJI Declined to Meet, Petition to Be Filed at 3 pm
Gandhi said that he and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to Chief Justice Surya Kant seeking time to meet, but the CJI declined and asked them to file a petition. He said he and INDIA bloc MPs will file a petition in the Supreme Court at 3 pm today.
“We Will Not Spare You”
Attacking Gyanesh Kumar, Gandhi said the CEC has lost his sleep and that he is asking the same questions two election commissioners had put to him. He asked why Kumar is not resigning, warning, “We will not spare you,” and claiming the opposition knows about his past and alleged corruption and is waiting.
