New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has issued a strong warning to leaders in the party’s Gujarat unit, accusing some of secretly working for the BJP. Addressing Congress workers in Ahmedabad, Gandhi stated that the party is ready to sack up to 40 leaders if needed to clean up the state unit.
“Some Congress Leaders Secretly Working For BJP”
Gandhi pointed out internal challenges within the Congress in Gujarat, emphasizing that there are two types of leaders– those genuinely connected to the people and those who remain distant.
“If we have to connect with the people of Gujarat, we need to separate these two groups. Even if we have to remove 10, 15, 20, 30, or 40 people, we are ready to do so to set an example,” Gandhi asserted.
He further urged leaders who are allegedly working for the BJP to come out openly instead of staying within the Congress.
“Those in Congress who are secretly working for the BJP should come out and work openly for them. The BJP won’t have space for you; they will throw you out,” he remarked.
Challenges In Gujarat & Need For Change
Rahul Gandhi acknowledged that the Congress has been out of power in Gujarat for nearly 30 years, and merely focusing on elections would not be enough to regain the trust of the people.
“Until we fulfil our responsibilities, the people of Gujarat will not elect us. We must first earn their trust,” he said.
He also criticized the BJP’s governance model, saying that small businesses, farmers, and industries in Gujarat need a new vision for development.
“The current model of governance has failed. The people of Gujarat are calling for change, and Congress can provide that vision,” he added.
Congress Leader Mumtaz Patel Reacts
Veteran Congress leader Ahmed Patel’s daughter, Mumtaz Patel, expressed her support for Gandhi’s statements.
“Rahul Gandhi’s speech gives me courage to speak openly. I have not been given any post in the party, and many others like me have been pushed aside due to personal interests of certain leaders,” she said.
BJP Reacts: “Rahul Gandhi Is BJP’s Biggest Asset”
The BJP was quick to respond, taking a jibe at Rahul Gandhi. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla called him the “BJP’s biggest asset”.
“Rahul Gandhi has trolled himself and his party. He is admitting that Congress is unable to win in Gujarat. He is calling Congress leaders racehorses and wedding horses. At least please call your party workers humans!” Poonawalla said sarcastically.
The political battle in Gujarat seems to be intensifying as Rahul Gandhi pushes for internal reforms, while the BJP takes aim at the Congress leadership’s challenges. The road ahead for Congress in Gujarat remains uncertain as state elections draw closer.
