Jamshedpur, Aug 1: A middle-aged railway employee was fatally injured on the track near Chakradharpur railway station early on Tuesday morning.
Identified as Umesh Kumar Sharma, the victim was a subordinate staff in the electric department of the railway and was working near a stationary train at the Chakradharpur railway station around 4.30 am when he was run over by a train.
In the mishap, the victim’s one leg was severed, leading fellow workers to rush him to Chakradharpur railway hospital where he succumbed to his injury in an hour.
Umesh Kumar Sharma was on the night shift duty and was supposed to be on duty from 10 pm on Monday till 6.00 am today. Though the victim would work the train engine-checking duty regularly, how was he run over by a train is beyond anyone’s knowledge.
After the fatal accident of an employee on duty, railway employees have turned resentful, claiming something has gone wrong with the functioning of the Chakradharpur railway division as another railway employee was run over by a goods train on duty under the same railway division a few months ago.
The resentful employees have demanded the senior railway officers to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances that caused Umesh Kumar Sharma to get run over by a train near the Chakradharpur station.
