Shimla, July 10: Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, made a plea to the state residents on Monday to stay inside for the ensuing 24 hours due to the likelihood of very heavy rainfall in the region.

“I urge people to unitedly face the difficulty and stay in their homes for the next 24 hours as there is possibility of heavy rains,” the Chief Minister said in a video posted on his Twitter handle.

He released three helpline numbers for those who are in need of assistance: 1100, 1070, and 1077.

The Chief Minister stated that he is ready 24/7 to assist the public and that they can call him for assistance.

In order to help residents in need and compensate them for any losses, he urged MLAs to remain in their constituencies.

The Chief Minister stated that the administration is doing all possible to assist those who are stranded because of heavy rains.

Sukhu said that 14 persons died as a result of the state’s heavy rainfall.

A red alert for heavy rainfall during the day was issued by the Indian Meteorological Department for Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.

The downpour may result in flooding and landslides, the Weather Department added.

On Sunday, Sukhu announced that every school and college would be closed on July 10 and 11.

In light of the state’s continuous heavy rains, IMD on Saturday issued a red alert for seven districts of the state and an orange alert for three districts for the ensuing 48 hours.

Six individuals were left trapped on Sunday in the Nagwain village of Mandi as a result of the Beas river’s rising flood level.

Heavy rains in Mandi caused the Panchvaktra bridge to collapse. Due to the frequent showers, several areas of north India saw a loss of life and property as well as disruptions in power and transport.
