Rajasthan: 12 die in trailer-bus collision in Bharatpur; PM, President express grief

Bharatpur, Sept 13: On the Jaipur-Agra Highway close to the Hantra village in Bharatpur, a trailer struck a parked bus, causing at least 11 deaths and 12 injuries,  police stated on Wednesday.

The bus was travelling from Gujarat’s Bhavnagar to Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura when the accident occurred on the highway close to Hantra.

“11 people died and 12 people were injured after a trailer collided with a stationary bus. The incident took place on the Jaipur-Agra National Highway near the Hantra village in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur. The passengers were heading to Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura from Gujarat’s Bhavnagar. The bus was standing on the highway while its repairing work was going on. Some passengers were in the bus while some were standing outside when the collision took place”, said Mridul Kachawa, Superintendent of Police (SP), Bharatpur.

The injured were taken to the RBM hospital in the Bharatpur district, and the bodies were kept in a morgue, the SP added.

An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh apiece from the Prime Minister’s Relief fund has been approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the families of those who perished in the Bharatpur accident, the PMO stated. The PMO added that the injured would receive Rs. 50,000 each.

The Prime Minister has approved an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the mishap in Bharatpur. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000 each.

Taking to X, Rajasthan chief minister Gehlot said, “The death of 11 people in a collision between a bus, that had come from Gujarat, and a trailer in Bharatpur is extremely sad. The police administration is present at the spot and the injured have been admitted to the hospital”.

भरतपुर में गुजरात से धार्मिक यात्रा आए श्रद्धालुओं की बस और ट्रेलर की टक्कर में 11 लोगों की मृत्यु अत्यंत दुखद है। पुलिस-प्रशासन मौके पर है एवं घायलों को उपचार के लिए अस्पताल ले जाया गया है।

मैं ईश्वर से सभी दिवंगतजनों की आत्मा की शांति एवं परिजनों को हिम्मत देने की प्रार्थना…

“I pray to God to give peace to the souls of all the deceased and courage to the families. May God give speedy recovery to all the injured”, added the Rajasthan CM.

President Murmu also condoled the loss of lives in the tragedy and wrote in an ‘X’ post, “I am deeply saddened by the news of a bus of devotees going from Gujarat to Uttar Pradesh meeting with an accident in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan and the death of many passengers. I express my condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured”.
