New Delhi: Actor Rajpal Yadav, currently lodged in Tihar Jail in a long-running cheque bounce case, did not get any relief from the Delhi High Court on Thursday. The court heard his bail plea but deferred the matter, listing the next hearing for February 16.

Lawyer Says Half Of The Amount Has Been Paid

Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer Bhaskar Upadhyay told the court that the actor has already paid half of the total amount. He said ₹2.5 crore has been paid out of the ₹5 crore liability. The lawyer added that the money was invested as part of a ₹5 crore deal and Rajpal never refused to repay it, but the company had earlier declined to accept payment during discussions.

Previous Sentence And Family Payment Details

The lawyer also stated that Rajpal Yadav has already served a three-month sentence in the case. He mentioned that he could not disclose who made the payment, calling it a family matter.

Bail Requested To Attend Niece’s Wedding

Rajpal Yadav had sought bail to travel to Shahjahanpur to attend his niece’s wedding. However, the court has not yet delivered a final decision on this request.

Case Background Linked To 2010 Film Loan

Rajpal had taken a loan in 2010 to produce his film ‘Ata Pata Laapata’. In 2018, a magistrate court sentenced Rajpal and his wife to six months in jail. The Delhi High Court had repeatedly directed repayment, but after failure to comply, Rajpal was ordered to surrender on February 4. He surrendered at Tihar Jail on February 5.
