Ramgarh, June 30: Dhoni Karmali, the 11-year-old son of Suresh Karmali, a resident of Barghutua village of Patratu block under Ramgarh district, participated in the 12th Jharkhand State Swimming Competition and won two gold medals in his age group competition. He is a student of class four at Upgraded Plus Two High School, Barghutuwa, Patratu.
The 12th Jharkhand State Swimming Competition was organized at Vir Budhu Bhagat Swimming Stadium in Khelgaon, Ranchi. Dozens of children across the state participated in it.
Dhoni’s coach Diwakar Kumar said, “In the initial phase, Dhoni was taught swimming tricks by his grandfather Jahuran Karmali who runs his family by boating in Patratu Dam. Seeing Dhoni’s talent, he was given special training. Dhoni won gold medals in both 50m and 100m competitions”.
He further said that in the future, Dhoni wants to make his mark at the international level. President of the Displaced Sailors Association of Patratu Dam, Jiaul Ansari Secretary Prayag Mahto, Kamlesh Kumar, Virendra Mahto, Pinku Kumar etc. congratulated Dhoni on his achievement.
Dhoni belongs to a poor family but has big dreams for his career. His achievement proves that poverty is nothing if one has strong willpower.
When Dhoni reached Ranchi’s Khelgaon to participate in the state-level swimming competition, other participants wearing swimming costumes made fun of him. But as soon as he won the two gold medals, he became the apple of everyone’s eyes.
