Ramgarh: 306 cattle administered with vaccine for lumpy skin disease

Ramgarh, Nov 24: A total of 306 cattle were vaccinated in Imligachh panchayat of Bhurkunda under Patratu block by the traveling veterinary officer, Bhurkunda Dr Pankaj Kumar to prevent them from lumpy skin disease on Thursday.

Along with this, Dr Pankaj also advised the animal parents to avoid any kind of superstition and told that this disease is not a divine outbreak.  

In relation to Lumpy Skin Disease infection, the general public and cattle herders were informed that LSD is a viral disease mainly infecting animals of cattle and buffalo species, which spreads from one animal to another.

In infected animals, discharge from the eyes and nose, lymph, swelling of the lymph glands, high fever, emergence of nodular lesions on the skin, symptoms like thrush, pneumonia etc. are found in female animals.  

The disease has a mortality rate of up to 10 percent, but there is a significant drop in production.

If such symptoms are found in cattle and buffaloes, the nearest officer can be informed so that veterinary and preventive action can be taken.

For this, a state-level toll-free number 18003097711 has been issued, in which advice from veterinarians can be taken from 11:00 AM to 05:00 PM.

Symptoms of lumpy skin disease

– Fever 

– Weight loss

– Watery eyes

– Drooling

– Body rash

– Reduce in milk production

– Loss of appetite

Prevention from lumpy skin disease

– Isolate the infected animal.

– Keep the stable clean.

– Spray to drive away mosquitoes.

– Get infected animals vaccinated with goat pox vaccine.

– Animals can be given medicine on the advice of a doctor.
