Ramgarh, March 3: Mandu police on Thursday arrested a fraudster who duped various villagers of Rs 1,70, 68,000 in the name of getting two-wheelers and four-wheelers on subsidy from the welfare department.

The arrested accused is identified as Sanjay Ram, a resident of Thakurgaon, Ranchi and a case has been registered against him at Mandu police station.

Moreover, many cases are registered against the accused in Ghato, Sisai, Mandar, Chutiya and Thakur villages of the area.

In the Mandu area, he used to cheat people of money by pretending to be a clerk of the Welfare Department Ranchi office.  When things did not work out, about 35 to 40 people, including Madan Mahto of Bongahara village, lodged an FIR against the accused Sanjay Ram at Mandu police station on December 2.

Taking the matter seriously, on the instructions of police Station Officer Anant Kumar Singh, the police team reached Thakurgaon and succeeded in arresting the fraud accused by laying a police trap.

The station in charge Anant Kumar Singh said that the investigation has been started by filing a case against the accused Sanjay.
