Ramgarh, Jan 4: With the objective of eradicating Cataract in the age group of 50 years and above from the entire Mandu block of Ramgarh district, Tata Steel Foundation, West Bokaro District Administration, Ramgarh and Shankar Netralaya in collaboration with Cataract Surgery Camp are being organised from January 4 to January 12 at Health Sub-Centre, Bargaon.
The check-up camp will run from January 4-7 and the operation of selected patients will be done from January 8-12.
The camp was inaugurated on January 4 by BV Sudhir Kumar, Chief, CB, West Bokaro Division, Tata Steel in the presence of Keshav Ranjan, Unit Head TSF, West Bokaro along with officials from Tata Steel and Tata Steel Foundation, representatives of Gram Panchayats.
Dr Prabhat Kumar, Civil Surgeon, Ramgarh and Dr Nitesh Kumar, MOIC, CHC Mandu also visited the camp. On this occasion, he informed the community about various health initiatives being taken by TSF like the Ni-Kshaya program for Tuberculosis patients, the development of CHC, Mandu, the development of model Anganwadi centres, the nutrition program etc.
Tata Steel Foundation, West Bokaro has been organising free Cataract Surgery Camps for the last 12 years. All affected cases were operated free of charge with intra-ocular lens implantation. The camps are being organized in collaboration with Sankara Nethralaya and Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU). A total of 2,594 cases were selected and successfully operated in West Bokaro Division from FY2014 to FY22.
In FY23, TSF, West Bokaro has conducted three such camps with a total of 321 successful operations out of 1318 patients examined. In this series, this is the fourth camp to serve the purpose.
