Ranchi, Mar 29: Special Judge (ACB) Prakash Jha today sentenced a corrupt education extension officer, Awadhesh Ram, to two-year rigorous imprisonment. He was caught red-handed accepting Rs 4000 as a bribe from a retired teacher in Gumla, Narayan Bhagat, on August 11, 2010, for clearance of his file related to pension, gratuity and GPF.
The public prosecutor (PP) A.K. Gupta, who ensured the conviction, informed this saying as many as 10 witnesses were examined from the prosecution side before the court convicted and sentenced punishment to the corrupt government official.
“The FIR was registered in this connection on August 11, 2010. Inspector Shyamlal Champia did verification. The bribe deal, which started with Rs. 20,000, was finalized at Rs 4000. Following which trap was laid and the officer was attested,” PP Gupta said.
Explaining why the deal started with Rs 20,000, PP Gupta said, “It was 5 percent of five lakh which the retiree was expected to get after clearance of his file.”
