Ranchi: Crime continues to surge in Jharkhand’s capital as armed miscreants targeted yet another government facility. The latest incident occurred at the Grid Sub Station (GSS) and Transmission Central Store located in Namkum, where around 25 armed robbers launched a daring attack late Monday night. The assailants held operational staff and home guard personnel hostage for nearly three hours while attempting to steal valuable equipment, including copper materials and relays.
Attack by Group of 25 Criminals
According to eyewitness employees, the gang of approximately 25 armed robbers entered the premises through the rear section of the store around 10:30 PM. They immediately confiscated the mobile phones of all staff members and locked them inside a room for nearly three hours. The criminals broke the locks of the store room and GSS using cutters, attempting to steal copper materials, relays, and other expensive equipment. However, the exact quantity of items stolen remains unconfirmed. Around 1:30 AM, the assailants returned the employees’ mobile phones and fled the scene.
Criminals Issue Threats Before Leaving
As per staff in the control room, the robbers threatened that if anyone reported the incident to the police or authorities, they would return to retaliate. The incident has left employees gripped with fear and anxiety.
Security Lapses Under Scrutiny
This audacious heist has raised serious questions about security arrangements at power department facilities and highlighted concerns over police patrolling and surveillance in the area. Police have been informed, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
