Ranchi, Dec.12: Residents of the Argora Housing Colony today knocked on the door of Ranchi deputy commissioner (DC) Rahul Kumar Sinha seeking his interference in the matter of allotment of open land of the public to an individual for personal use.

The residents through a memorandum to the DC, a copy of which has also been given to the Jharkhand State Housing Board managing director, took strong exception to this practice saying this is against the board’s norms.

According to them, open space is left in a colony developed by any housing board for public use of those persons who have been allotted a house on a no-profit and no-loss basis. Apart from this, they were also of the opinion that the price of open space also remains included in the price of houses provided to an allottee.

The residents informed the DC that a temple and a religious pond on the open space which has been allotted for personal use for over 27 years.

A board official acknowledged the development, stating that the housing board had given the raiyyat the space in exchange for the land it had used without first acquiring it through the acquisition process. The raiyyat then filed a high court petition to reclaim his land.

The high court has given a deadline to hand over the land by December 15 and as the date has come closer, the residents of the Housing Colony have come together.
