Ranchi, Aug.16: Former ADM Ahmed Hussain and his son Andlib Ahmed, both residents of Rahmat Colony in Doranda, were given life sentences by additional judicial commissioner Dinesh Rai’s court on Tuesday in a case involving dowry murder in Ranchi.

Additionally, the court fined both the parties Rs 50,000 apiece. For failing to pay the fine, the father and son will each serve an additional year in jail.

On August 8, the court found both of them guilty. Both were charged with murdering Shaista Hasmat in exchange for dowry. The deceased’s brother-in-law, Andleeb Ahmed, is already incarcerated. His appearance occurred through video conference at the punishment hearing.

Hashmat Ali Ola, the deceased’s father, perished in this incident that happened in 2017 as a result of her in-laws’ refusal to hand over his daughter’s body.

Shaista Hasmat and Aftab Ahmed, the son of ADM, were wed on December 27, 2015, according to the woman’s father, who had earlier reported the incident at the Doranda police station. Following the wedding, there was ongoing harassment on the need for 15 lakhs in dowry to purchase a flat. On July 12, 2017, the mother-in-law, father-in-law, and brother-in-law strangled their daughter to death with an electric wire after the dowry was not paid.
