Ranchi, Dec.10: Jail inmates were made aware of human rights at Birsa Munda Central Jail on the occasion of Human Rights Day today.
The Ranchi District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has organized the awareness programme on the instruction of Jharkhand Legal Service Authority (JHALSA).
DLSA Secretary Rakesh Ranjan explained what comes under the purview of human rights and how it is important for a person.
“Human rights are the privileges which should be provided to every person as a part of his or her normal day to day life. These can be understood as those fundamental rights to which every individual is fully entitled. There can be no discrimination of any kind on the basis of culture, skin color, religion, or anything else. Human rights apply equally to all human beings,” DLSA secretary Ranjan said.
Jail Superintendent Hamid Akhtar talked about the importance of Human Rights Day.
“Special days like Human Rights Day not only protect the rights of individuals but also help in making the society equal and fair. It is very important for us to realize that as human beings we need to protect each other’s rights. If we respect human rights then we grow as a society,” Akhtar said.
DLSA Secretary Ranjan, on the occasion, directed Jail Para Legal Volunteers to create legal awareness and provide legal aid to the undertrial prisoners.
