Ranchi, May 16: Doctors at Bhagwan Mahavir MEDICA Superspecialty Hospital, Ranchi successfully treated a 30-year-old patient Vishwanath Manjhi of Ranchi who was suffering from Lymphoma (cancer that begins in cells of the lymph system).
According to Dr Gunjesh Kumar Singh, the patient arrived at MEDICA with severe breathing difficulty and even on high flow oxygen his oxygen saturation was only 80%.
“He was admitted to the hospital and after investigation, we found that a large 17 cm mediastinal mass (tumours that form in the area of the chest that separates the lungs) with gross bilateral pleural effusion (abnormal accumulation of fluid in the pleural space). Around 4 litres of fluid was drained with pigtails from both sides. On biopsy from tumour he was diagnosed with lymphoma,” Dr Gunjesh said.
Dr Gunjesh further said that he was started on pre phase therapy and then full dose chemotherapy (doxorubicin, Bleomycin, vinblastine and dacarbazine) along with high-risk tumour lysis management.
“After which he started recovering and within 4 days pigtails were removed from both sides. He is fine and stable now and we are planning to discharge him. He will continue his treatment for the next 4 months,” he added.
Giving a positive message to the people he said that such life-threatening diseases and advanced cancer can now be treated in Ranchi itself for which earlier people had to travel long distances to get themselves treated.
