Ranchi, March 23: Ranchi is all set to celebrate the festival of nature, ‘Sarhul’ on March 24. On the joyous occasion, devotees fast on the day of celebration, with the new year’s prediction and wish for miraculous rains, and water conservation through customary prayers.

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) announced that it will offer free bus transport on five major routes in the city, namely, Namkum, Siramtoli, Hehal, Kanke, Booti More and Kathal More on the eve of Sarhul. Apart from this, hygiene and sanitation of Sarna sites (Akhara) will be the priority of RMC. Further, water tankers and portable toilets for public utilities will be placed at various locations from Ranchi College to Siramtoli.

Kunwar Pahan, Additional Municipal Commissioner of RMC said, “In the city, there are 121 small and large Akhadas. Due to the high population crowd at the Sarna sites of Siramoli, Hatma, the RMC is carrying out land-leveling work at every akharas. Under a special programme, the site’s approach roads will be thoroughly cleaned.”

“The entire provision path will be lined with portable toilets. Around 25 city buses will be run free of cost. All the buses will be found standing at the government bus stand after 5 pm. People will be able to travel for free. Along with this, in view of the power cut on the day of Sarhul, the corporation will arrange lighting on various roads of the city,” he added.

The ancestral flag of the Munda community will be flown during the march. Participants in the procession will wear traditional clothing and play traditional music in addition to carrying traditional weapons.

Chadri Puja Samiti’s president, Bablu Munda, said, “During the march, the ancestral flag of the Munda community would be displayed. This flag dates back to the reign of Maharaja Madra Munda. The committee’s procession will include around 400 individuals.”

For the celebration and parade that will take place in various parts of the city, more than 10 tableaux have been prepared. Kendirya Sarna Samiti President Ajay Tirki said, “Various committees are designing tableaus that would be related to nature and will symbolise the significance of the gifts we have received from nature. During the celebration, there will be around ten tableaus present in the procession representing the love for nature. ”
