Ranchi, Oct 12: The mines and geology department of Jharkhand has constituted a team to probe the reason behind the heating of a portion of the floor in the sanctum sanctorum of Ranchi’s historic Jagannathpur temple.
The action was taken after a priest of the temple informed a section of the media and temple committee regarding the heating saying Ghee kept in pot melts due to heat. The priest informed this after three days of observation.
Director (geology) Vijay Kumar Ojha informed about the constitution of the team to lagatar24.com saying once the team submits its report after visiting the spot, he will be able to comment on the reason behind the heating.
Meanwhile, a geologist in the city Nitish Priyadarshi threw light on the probable reasons.
“After the renovation in the year 2000, the floor of the temple was made using granite. It is quite possible due to the granite floor as the heat produced in the sanctum sanctorum due to various reasons got trapped and caused heating. The reason behind head production can be radiation and radioactive substances in the rocks on which the temple is situated. Apart from these, patches of limestone in Ranchi could be another reason. Hawan during Durga Puja and Jagannath Rath Yatra can also produce heat under the ground. Sometimes earthing wire also causes heat,” Priyadarshi said.
Asked director (geology) Ojha whether the team will carry out any excavation work to ascertain the reason, he ruled out the possibility saying it is not required. “We are experienced and knowledgeable enough to ascertain the reason behind heating without any excavation,” he said laughing.
