Ranchi, Sept.29: Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) Mayor Asha Lakra asked Municipal Commissioner (MC) Mukesh Kumar to know his limit.

She organised a press conference after she found that the municipal commissioner added four items to the agenda for tomorrow’s RMC council meeting without her prior permission.

Mayor Lakra said she is chairman of the council while the commissioner is secretary and the Jharkhand Municipal Act mandates the secretary to take prior approval of the Chairman before preparing any agenda without considering whether the matter is big or small.

Lakra on the occasion also said the RMC is an autonomous body and it is not bound to accept any proposal of the government. She said that the municipal commissioner is a senior officer of RMC and gets a salary for his work from here and thus it is expected from him he should work in the interest of RMC.

Mayor Lakra while asking the MC to know his limit said she had already sent the opinion of an additional solicitor general of the Supreme Court explaining the power and rights under the Jharkhand Municipal Act.

The tug of war between the Mayor and the municipal commissioner has been continuing for a long time. The postponement of the September 27 RMC council meeting was its reflection. Now a day before the rescheduled council meeting this situation has come.
