PLFI message demanding Rs 3 crore as levy keeps police on its toes

Ranchi, Sept.29: A letter purported to be sent by PLFI chief Dinesh Gope through telephonic message followed by a telephonic call to a businessman demanding Rs 3 crore as levy within eight days of receipt of the message has kept city police on its toes.

 

The message was sent on September 18 at 3.02pm threatening the businessman with dire consequences in case of non-payment of the amount. An FIR in the matter was registered on September 23 at Kotwali police station.

 

The matter came to the fore after the deadline given by the extremist organisation chief for levy payment crossed and family members of the business got terrified anticipating dire consequences.

 

S.P.(city) Saurabh Kumar did not take calls when contacted at 5.37pm and 6.22pm for his comment on the matter.

 

An official at Kotwali police station confirmed the registration of the FIR saying that police are trying to ascertain the genuineness of the messages and taking all measures to ascertain the identity of the callers the facts taking the numbers used to send messages and calls.
