Ranchi, Dec 16: A total of 23 years have passed since the Welfare Cinema Hall situated in the Sainik Market was shut down.
The government has failed to restore the cinema hall and it has now become a gambling place for the people as the backside of the boundary wall is demolished.
Army Welfare Directorate Director Brig BG Pathak on Thursday said that the whole complex, including the Sainik market will be converted into a multiplex shopping mall.
“The talks for developing the market are underway which also includes the Welfare Cinema Hall which was closed long ago,” Pathak said.
“We will have to wait for the further government order to know the time limit in which the mall will be prepared,” Pathak further added.
However, talking to the street vendors who have placed their shops just outside the cinema hall said that every year there are talks about opening the cinema hall but it will not be opened ever.
“One person came to remove my shop so I told him to bring the keys first on the main gate and that has happened two years ago,” a vendor said.
Welfare Cinema Hall was formed before the formation of Jharkhand as a separate state which was used to show commercial movies on a big screen and it was not opened only for the military personnel but was also opened for the public at large.
