Ranchi POCSO court convicts 7 for gang rape with minor

Ranchi, Sept.3: A Special court to handle cases related to sexual exploitation of minors today convicted as many as seven accused of committing gang rape with a minor in Bero, a place about 30km from Jharkhand capital.

The convicts include Amar Mahali, Sanjay Mahali, Sanjay Oraon, Suraj Chik Badaik, Sukhdev Oraon and Raju Oraon.

The judgment on their quantum of punishment will be given on September 8.

The case arose after the victim of gang rape registered an FIR on May 17 May, 2019 at Bero police station. She, in her FIR, alleged when she was returning from a wedding ceremony she fell prey to the rapists, who took her to a crop field and raped in turns. She mentioned that she was threatened of dire consequences in case of revelation of the incident.

The process of framing of charges against all the culprits was completed on September 20, 2019. The prosecution completed the testimony on May 5 2022. The police presented scientific evidence besides others against the accused in the court.
