Ranchi, Aug.30: A POCSO court in Jharkhand capital today sentenced Syed Nadeem alias Sonu for 10 years and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for sexually harassing a girl for two years after promising to marry her.
The victim had registered an FIR against him at the Kanke police station on January 27 last year after Sonu instead of solemnizing the marriage started sending her obscene pictures to her parents.
Sonu was convicted on August 22 after 20 months of trial in the court of Special Judge of POCSO Asif Iqbal. There were as many as eight witnesses from prosecution side in the case
Sonu is already in jail. The Police had arrested him a day after an FIR was registered against him. The Court never granted him bail.
According to the FIR, Sonu sexually exploited the girl and established physical relationship. When the victim pressured her to marry, the accused retracted from the marriage. In order to harass the victim, the accused started sending her obscene photos to her father on mobile and threatened her of dire consequences if she insisted on marrying him.
