Ranchi, Dec.6: The Ranchi police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the death of a Class VIII student, Rohit Kujur, who fell on the ground from the top floor of the four-storey residential school building, Vivek Memorial School, at New Nagar under Sadar police station area of the city. The police have registered a case of suicide into the matter.
The incident took place on Saturday and a case of unnatural death was registered in this connection on the statement of the deceased’s mother, Sunita Kujur, who runs a dhaba at Namkum and was not present at the spot at the time of the incident.
Contacted officer-in-charge of Sadar police station Shyam Bihari Mahto for his comment in the matter he admitted the fact saying circumstances suggest suicide.
“The boy had taken keys from the office to open the door required to reach the rooftop. One CCTV footage shows him going to the rooftop, another CCTV footage shows students pointing their fingers towards anticipating wrong and third CCTV shows students running at the rooftop to save him,” OC Mahto said.
“Prior to this, he used to prefer staying alone. When his friends used to ask him the reason he used to ask them to mind their businesses. None of the students gave any clue suggesting any other angle in the matter,” Mahto said.
Though police registered a case of un-natural death and almost closed the chapter in the case, the question remained unanswered how come office staff provide the boy key without proper verification and taking proper precaution, why an attempt was not made to ascertain why the boy, who used to stay in the hostel since class I, preferred staying alone and why police did not take it as a matter of criminal negligence though the school campus is considered as the safest campus for students away from home.
