Ranchi, April 8: City roads wore a deserted look in response to the day-long ‘Ranchi Bandh’ call given by various tribal organizations to protest against the disrespect to the Sarna flag in the Jharkhand capital.
Schools remained closed and majority of business establishments remained closed. Vehicles also remained off-road as the business establishments remained closed.
Since morning, volunteers of tribal organizations were noticed on the road to enforce the bandh and people were noticed responding to their diktat properly without any protest. All the roads leading to Birsa Chowk remained closed as the tribals had burnt tyres around and restricted entry.
Apart from this, the road has also been blocked in many places. Due to this, the traffic was disrupted. Additional police forces were noticed at strategic locations. A police official said as many as 40 magistrates and 800 policemen have been deployed at various places.
Apart from this, the police official said 58 members of the bike patrol team have also been deployed, who will continuously patrol various routes and take action against those who spread nuisance. If Bandh supporters try to damage movable and immovable property anywhere, they have been asked to take immediate action while recording videos.
The situation arose after anti-social elements uprooted the Sarna flag after Sarhul in the lower Karamtoli area under the jurisdiction of the Lalpur police station.
Rajendra Munda alleged that this was done with the aim of insulting the tribals. Various organizations have called for a Ranchi bandh demanding action against the culprits.
