Ranchi, May 4: Ranchi University has begun preparations to implement the New Education Policy from the academic session 2022. The university has shared its step by step plan to help in implementing the NEP with the state education department. Along with this, the university will be making some changes in the integrated course module of graduation and B.Ed.

While talking in this regard, Deputy Director Vibha Pandey at the Department of Higher and Technical Education said, “With the Universities being run in autonomous mode, they have been taking a decision in this regard through internal committee meetings. The RU will be instating the NEP from this session, as a result of which, certain changes will be made. For instance, they will be increasing the number of add on courses. Like in the case of subsidiary papers, students in streams like science or arts will be able to elect more generic electives from other streams as well.”

“Along with this, the university will also be starting the academic bank of credits. For multiple entry exits, clustering of colleges will be done on the basis of NAAC grading. The university will also be starting translation of books in the local languages to help regional students read syllabi in their local languages. Skill oriented courses like carpentry and plumbing for at least six months are also in talks to increase job opportunities,” she added.

She further said that other universities have also been asked to chalk out their plans along the lines of plans by RU. “We are also planning to start a one year Amanat certificate course in all universities. This course is presently run only in Doranda college in RU. The state wants at least one college in every district to provide Amanat courses for students. We will also soon form a state-level NEP cell to bring all universities on a common platform to encourage the exchange of ideas,” she said.

On the other hand, the undergraduate and B.Ed courses will now be four years long, while post-graduation will be one year. The university administration has also constituted two committees to implement the new education policy in the integrated courses of undergraduate and BEd. These committees will see what necessary changes are necessary for the syllabus to adopt the new education policy.

Along with this, a 12-member committee has been formed for the undergraduate courses headed by Dr Vice-Chancellor Kamini Kumar. Meanwhile, its members include DSW Dr Rajkumar Sharma, Proctor Dr TN Sahu, Controller of Examinations Dr Ashish Kumar Jha, Dean Commerce Dr Sudesh Kumar Sahu, Principal of Marwari College Dr Manoj Kumar, Principal of Doranda College Dr BP Verma, Principal of Ranchi Women’s College Dr Shamshun Nehar, Dr GK Singh, Dr Pritam Kumar, Dr Rajkumar Singh and Dr Neeraj Kumar.

Meanwhile, members of the committee formed for the B.Ed Integrated Course include DSW Dr Rajkumar Sharma as the chairman along with principals of Doranda College, Girls B.Ed College Bariatu, Bethesda B.Ed College, Ursuline B.Ed College Lohardaga, B. Ed department HOD Dr Florence Purti of St Xavier’s College Ranchi, and Prof Dr Sachin Kumar Singh of BEd department in Ranchi Women’s College.

In view of the three year undergraduate courses now being four years long, some portions of the syllabus of the first year of post-graduation will be added to the undergraduate course. Both the committees will give suggestions in this regard after their meetings.
