Ranchi Vigilance court awards four years’ jail to Collectorate staff

Ranchi, Sept 1: The Special Vigilance court in Ranchi awarded four years of rigorous imprisonment in an eight years old bribery case to an employee of Ranchi district administration Sachindra Nath Mahto. Posted at Ranchi district collectorate, he had been arrested in 2014 while accepting Rs 2500 as bribe form a complainant.

He had demanded Rs 3000 from a complainant for issuing him his land record. He ultimately agreed to pay Rs 2500 and further informed the Vigilance Bureau. A discrete inquiry was conducted by the Vigilance Bureau and the allegation was found true. Ultimately, a trap was laid and he was arrested red handed. Special public prosecutor Ashok Gupta said that the prosecution produced 12 witnesses who supported the chargesheet.
