Ranchi, Dec.15: A woman sustained an injury while saving her Mangalsutra worth around Rs 80,000 from a chain snatcher on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place hardly 20m from her house at Vidyapati Nagar under the Gonda police station area in the heart of the Jharkhand capital in broad daylight. Though her attempt failed, her action was praised by her neighbours.
A local resident informed this saying it was getting around 2.30 pm when the incident took place as the lady, Savita Mishra in her thirties, was on her way to Kanke Road from her residence.
“A miscreant wearing a helmet came on a bike and snatched her gold mangalsutra chain from the front side. As the lady realised that her marriage symbol was being snatched, she resisted. She gave a fist and fought the snatcher. At first, the snatcher fell with sudden retaliation but later he managed to stand up. Standing up he also assaulted the lady and then ran towards CCL’s Gandhi Nagar Colony,” the resident said.
A formal FIR is yet to be registered in this connection though police officials visited the spot and collected CCTV footage related to the incident.
The lady’s husband is a civil contractor and this is for the first time she faced the situation. Her two daughters are students of class XI and class II.
