Ranchi: XISS holds street plays contest on gender discrimination

Ranchi, April 6: The Internal Complaint Committee of Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi in collaboration with Aawaz Club, the dramatic society of XISS, organised a Nukkad Natak competition with the aim of creating awareness about gender discrimination and harassment as a part of its yearly training and awareness programme on Wednesday.

Director, XISS, Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur in his address to the gathering said, “Man and women are complementary to each other and one cannot function without the other”. It is important to sensitize people about gender equality and so this theme today at this event holds great importance. He further emphasised on the “Importance of Gender equality in every sphere of life and breaking the stereotypes persisting in the society”.

Notably, a total of 4 teams participated in the event which was judged by a panel consisting of Dr Pradeep Kerkatta SJ, Assistant Director, XISS along with Dr Ramakant Agarwal, Dr Arana Kausar,Dr Bhabani Mahapatra and Dr Sanjay Verma.

The Team Rudraksh (theme – cleanliness of mind and state of women in the society) of Financial Management Programme bagged the first prize and received a cash prize of Rs 7000; while the second prize was won by team Aayna (theme – Sexual harassment at workplace) of Rural Management Programme who won Rs 4000. Team Nayan (theme – politics and workplace harassment) of Marketing Management Programme and Team Forced (theme – Gender Stereotypes) of Human Resource Management also presented their acts and all the participants received certificates of participation.

XISS faculty, staff and students attended the event and witnessed the several aspects of gender discrimination and harassment prevailing in the society. ICC Presiding Officer, Dr Madhumita Singha Neogi and Dr Pooja, Member, ICC XISS, Ranchi along with other ICC members coordinated the event.
