New Delhi: Star Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed that he takes inspiration from Ravindra Jadeja’s batting prowess. Both players played crucial roles in rescuing India during the first innings of the ongoing Test against Bangladesh, putting together a vital 199-run stand for the seventh wicket.
Ashwin delivered a magnificent performance, scoring his sixth Test century with a knock of 113 from 133 balls. Jadeja, too, contributed significantly, scoring 86 from 124 deliveries. Their partnership helped India recover from a precarious position at 144/6 to a more respectable total of 376. Reflecting on their partnership, Ashwin highlighted Jadeja’s remarkable first-class record, which includes three triple centuries.
“Jaddu’s (Ravindra Jadeja) batting has been a source of inspiration for me over the years. The way he has refined his game and consistently performed is something I admire. His first-class record speaks for itself, and though replicating his achievements, like scoring triple hundreds, may be tough for me, I still try to take inspiration from his approach,” Ashwin said in a video shared by the BCCI.
Ashwin’s Father’s Pride and His “Zone” Moment
Ashwin also shared a personal moment, revealing that his father, who was present during his century, was particularly proud of his knock. The 38-year-old admitted that the significance of his performance didn’t fully sink in until later, when he reviewed some footage.
“My Dad was extremely happy yesterday. I’m not sure why, but he said it was one of the best innings he’s seen me play. I didn’t fully realize the impact of it until I watched some video clips later. It was one of those moments where I was completely in the zone. It has happened a few times over my 101 Test matches, but it’s always a special feeling,” Ashwin added.
India Dominates Day 2 Against Bangladesh
After their first-innings heroics, India gained a 308-run lead by Day 2, dismissing Bangladesh for just 149 runs. Jadeja played a key role with the ball, taking 2/19, while Jasprit Bumrah starred with impressive figures of 4/50. India resumed their innings at 81/3, with Shubman Gill (33*) and Rishabh Pant (12*) at the crease as they look to extend their commanding lead on Day 3.
