Dhanbad Oct 26: Three-day Revised Basic Course (RBC) training of National Medical Commission (NMC) for full-time faculty members of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) began on Tuesday morning.

Dr Srikant Panda, convener of NMC regional centre Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College Cuttack, Odisha, is imparting training to teachers of SNMMCH over how to teach students in the changed curriculum of the National Medical Commission.

30 senior teachers of the institution are getting this training during the three days’ programme (October 26 to October 28).

SNMMCH Principal, Dr Jyoti Ranjan Prasad, and Dr Srikant Panda jointly inaugurated the programme and shed light on the importance of training to faculty members in improving their teaching eligibility and promotional career.

A senior professor of SNMMCH said NMC changed the old curriculum of medical education and introduced Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) in 2019. That’s why such training programmes are being organized for faculty members on how to teach the changed curriculum.

The training is very significant for teachers at SNMMCH. As per NMC guidelines, training of CBME programme is mandatory for the promotion of a faculty member in his/her career. Moreover, in the eastern states, such training is being imparted only at Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College Cuttack, the lone centre of NMC.

“Benefit of this training programme is that 30 teachers of the institution are getting training at a time while at the Cuttack regional centre of NMC only two faculty members of a medical college are allowed to attend,” said a senior teacher of SNMMCH.

This is the second time that the RBC training is being organized in Dhanbad’s medical college. Earlier, the then Patliputra Medical College Hospital (now SNMMCH) had organized it in 2019.

For the success of this training programme, SNMMCH has constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Principal Dr Jyoti Ranjan Prasad, Dr Ravibhushan, medical education unit, Dr Krishna Kumari and Dr RK Verma.

Dr Shashi Bala Nag and Dr Mona Kumari conducted the function.
