In the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has surged back to the top of the points table, overtaking Rajasthan Royals within 24 hours after a strong performance.

RCB vs RR Battle for Top Position

Rajasthan Royals had briefly claimed the top spot after winning their match in the 9th game of the season. However, their dominance was short-lived as Royal Challengers Bengaluru reclaimed the number one position based on a superior net run rate.

Both teams have shown impressive form early in the tournament, making the race for the top position highly competitive.

Match Highlights and Team Standings

On April 5, two key matches shaped the points table. Lucknow Super Giants defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets, registering their first win of the season and earning two points. Despite the loss, Sunrisers Hyderabad holds a better net run rate, placing them above Lucknow in the standings.

In another match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Chennai Super Kings by 43 runs, marking their second consecutive victory. This win brought RCB level on points with Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings, but their superior net run rate of 2.507 pushed them to the top.

Current Scenario in Points Table

Rajasthan Royals now occupy the second position, followed by Delhi Capitals in third and Punjab Kings in fourth. Chennai Super Kings are struggling at the bottom, having lost all three of their matches so far. Teams like Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders have managed only one win each in three games, reflecting a mixed start to their campaigns.
