Ranchi, Nov.1: The reason behind the Trikut Ropeway tragedy that took place on April 10 this year claiming three lives is still a mystery as the PIL related to the matter has not been heard since May 6.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice S.N.Prasad had taken suo moto cognizance of the matter on April 12 on the basis of media reports and during its hearing in the matter on April 25 had directed to bring report of BIT, Mesra and CIMFR, Dhanbad on record but the report is yet to be brought on the record.
“It has been widely published in the newspaper that there were two technical reports, one by a technical committee of B.I.T. Mesra, Ranchi in which one of the Executive Engineers was also a member involved. The second is the report by the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research, Dhanbad (C.I.M.F.R) just before Ramnavami. Learned counsels for the C.I.M.F.R, Dhanbad and B.I.T. Mesra, Ranchi are present as also learned Advocate General is present. We want those reports to be brought on record. Let those reports be brought on record within a period of two weeks,” the court order read.
The high court website suggests that the matter was expected to be heard on May 6, June 10, June 17, July 15, July 29, August 12, September 9 and September 23 but it could not be heard. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled on November 11 and it is expected that some light will be thrown on the reason behind the accident and those responsible for the accident will be identified and punished.
The ropeway is on Trikut hill in Deoghar. The hill is located on Deoghar-Dumka main road under Mohanpur police station area of Deoghar district. The ropeway wire of Trikut Mountain was broken. Many of its passengers were trapped in the trolley itself. To remove it, the Army, NDRF and local administration were involved in the rescue.
