Jamshedpur, April 12: Jharkhand which is in the grip of a heatwave with day’s reading notching as high as 44-45 degrees Celsius can look forward to some respite with the meteorological department hinting at rain this weekend.
IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre on Tuesday issued a rain and thunderstorm alert in various pockets of Jharkhand for three days from April 16, Saturday.
Weathermen said a cyclonic circulation over eastern Uttar Pradesh coupled with changes in local weather conditions is likely to trigger rain and thunderstorm activity, usually referred to as a Nor’wester.
Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed in the state during the last 24 hours.
Statistics revealed that the IMD observatory in Daltonganj recorded the highest maximum temperature of 44.2°C in the past 24 hours.
Jamshedpur and Garhwa recorded around 43°C while Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih and several other places recorded around 41°C for the last two days.
Tuesday’s satellite pictures revealed the formation of a low-pressure trough at mid and upper tropospheric levels which will help thunderstorm and rainfall activity over Jharkhand.
The Patna Meteorological Centre also issued a forecast of a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain or thunderstorm at isolated places over north, south-east and central Jharkhand between April 16 and 18.
Jharkhand has so far experienced not a single Nor’wester this summer which has resulted in an unusual heat in most of the districts.
