Ranchi, Sept.3: State-run super speciality hospital, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) will become 12th centre of the country to have a kidney transplantation centre.
An MoU has been signed for this between the state government and the union government.
RIMS Director Dr Kameshwar Prasad informed this at a press conference saying that the idea behind starting the facility is that organs can not be created and only donation of organs can help fulfil its requirement in the body.
He said that its requirement was experienced after cases of multiorgan failure increased in the country during the covid time.
Dr Prasad said that work for the appointment of surgeons has been started for the work and dialysis facilities are being strengthened following approval in principle by the state government. He said a form for organ donation is available on the website and an awareness campaign will be carried out to promote organ donation.
The RIMS director said cornea transplantation and plastic surgery are already available at RIMS and from August 25 to September 8 an eye donation fortnight will be organised.
