Ranchi, Sept 12: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has plans to set up a total of five model meat shops across the city which will supply meat from the slaughterhouse at Kanke once it starts functioning again. The areas allotted are Kanke Road, Morabadi, Kanta Toli, Doranda and Harmu.
Moreover, RMC has started the work towards restarting the abandoned slaughterhouse in Kanke. Municipal Commissioner Shashi Ranja said in an interview that a team from RMC will soon inspect the slaughterhouse and will plan to start it as quickly as possible.

Notably, the slaughterhouse has the capacity to slaughter 500 goats and sheep in a day. Once it starts functioning, the residents of the city will get hygienic meat. Before slaughtering, every animal will be examined by a veterinarian and the unfit ones will be removed from slaughtering.
According to sources, the abandoned slaughterhouse is spread over five acres of land with an investment of around Rs 18 crore by the RMC. The slaughterhouse was built in 2012-13 and was supposed to start functioning by 2018. However, it has been locked for the last 10 years and RMC is hopeful of restarting it soon.
Moreover, RMC believes that with its commissioning, the illegal slaughterhouses running in the city will be banned so that only hygienic meat could be available to the people. However, it is a matter of misfortune that the residents of the city have not been able to get the benefit of this system to date. The modern machines installed in the slaughterhouse are becoming useless as they have not been used for a long time. RMC has also been facing monetary losses due to the abandonment of the slaughterhouse.
