Ranchi, May 23: The ward councilors of the city have warned of protests at a discussion held with Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya on Monday. The councilors said this while demanding a proper meeting over the issues arising in the city and upset over a two-year delay in conducting a meeting that was to be conducted on a monthly basis.
Claiming that several issues including garbage collection and water scarcity need to be discussed and solved to help the residents of the city, the councilors have demanded a meeting soon with Mayor Asha Lakra and the Municipal Commissioner of the city.
One of the councilors stated, “The meeting of the Municipal Council is the only place where all the councilors of the city are able to keep the problems related to their areas that are resolved by the council itself. However, because of delays or no meetings, even the allocation of funds for the development of the city is not being done properly.”
He further continued, “However, for the last two years, the citizens of the city along with all the councilors are troubled due to the lack of meetings of the municipal council and the development of the city almost coming to a halt. At a time when the company looking after the cleaning and garbage collection in Ranchi has been fired and the whole city has become a heap of garbage, along with the water troubles faced by the whole city, meetings of the council are a necessity.”
Other councilors added that due to this neither of them is able to keep their promises to the voters, nor are they able to put any pressure on the government.
Notably, it was decided in the last emergency meeting that monthly meetings of the Ranchi Municipal Council would be ensured. Even after this, the meeting of the Municipal Corporation has not been called till date. Despite repeated requests, all the councilors are now annoyed by this and have decided that if the meeting of the municipal council is not called by the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner without delay, all the councilors will not have any option but to launch agitation and protest against the RMC.
