Dhanbad, Dec 13: Two kids were killed while their mother got seriously injured in a road accident under Gawan police station, around 72 km away from Giridih district headquarters on Sunday evening, according to police officials.

The Officer-in-charge of Gawan police station, Anil Kumar, said that the deceased kids were identified as Himpal Kumar (5) and Sagar Kumar (2). The kids were the residents of Harijan Tola of Kharsan Panchayat. Their mother Sabita Devi is under treatment at Giridih Sadar hospital.

The incident occurred around 5 pm. All three were going to attend a marriage ceremony in Domchanch of Koderma district when their auto turned turtle at high speed. The auto-driver fled from the spot after the incident.

On receiving the information, Gawan police reached the accident spot and immediately got them admitted to the Gawan community health centre (CHC). The doctors declared Sagar Kumar as brought dead and referred Himpal Kumar and his mother Sabita Devi to Giridih Sadar hospital.

“Himpal succumbed to his injury on the way to Giridih Sadar hospital. His mother is under treatment,” said OC Anil Kumar.  He added that police took the bodies in possession late at night and today sent for post-mortem.

This is the second tragedy in a month in Giridih when kids have lost their lives. Last month, four children of a family drowned in a river under Birni police station of the district while cleaning Chhath festival utensils.
