Ranchi: Asim Mandal, alias “Akash,” a top Maoist figure from West Bengal carrying a bounty of Rs 1 crore, has reportedly relinquished command of his armed squad and disbanded the group, according to sources.

Akash Rose to Prominence After Kishanji’s Death

Following Kishanji’s death, Akash was handed a key organisational responsibility in West Bengal and went on to become a prominent face of Maoist activities in the region. Sources say he has now stepped down from leadership of his squad and advised his associates to move to separate safe hideouts.

Security Agencies Track Associates After Surprise Move

Following Akash’s move, security agencies have stepped up surveillance on his associates and potential hideouts. However, there has been no official confirmation yet of his complete disassociation from the organisation.
