Ranchi, April 18: The Ranchi University (RU), for the first time in 62 years since its conception is set to organise a book fair for students and teachers alike between April 19 and 26 at Aryabhatta Auditorium from 11 am to 4 pm.

PRO Pritam, in this regard said, this is the first time that Ranchi University will be organizing such an event. “However, this book fair will be different from others as we have only invited books of research scholars, students and teachers of the university to be on sale. This means that all writers displayed in the fair will be present or former members of the Ranchi University family,” he added.

He further continued stating, “Registrar Mukund Mehta, on orders from VC Prof Dr Kumar had invited all teachers cum authors of colleges and the PG departments under him by sending letters to invite them to not only attend but even participate in the book fair.”

DSW R K Sharma believes that the initiative by the VC Dr Prof Kamini Kumar will help students. “In the age of the internet, the youth who are getting away from books will get inspiration from the book fair as this book fair will have books written by teachers, students and research scholars among them. This will also inspire the students coming to this fair to write books,” Sharma said.

He further added, “We hope that this fair will inspire the students to use books for research nowadays, instead of using the Internet. Most importantly, the students who could not see the research from other departments on several topics will now be able to see and read it too. Through these journals, students and teachers will be able to get more information and also be inspired to write, not just read books.”

Notably, earlier during the tenure of Dr. Sheen Akhtar, a similar event was held, where the PhD thesis of students was publicly exhibited at the university campus. The RU administration wishes that the book fair will encourage research work and quality writing.
