SA vs Ind, 1st test: Bumrah suffers ankle sprain

Centurion, Dec 27: Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah suffered a right ankle sprain while bowling in the first innings of the ongoing first Test against South Africa at the SuperSport Park, Centurion.

Shreyas Iyer has taken the field as a substitute. In the 11th over of South Africa innings, Bumrah left the field after twisting his ankle in the follow-through.

“Jasprit Bumrah has suffered a right ankle sprain while bowling in the first innings. The medical team is monitoring him at the moment. Shreyas Iyer is on the field as his substitute,” the BCCI confirmed in a tweet.

India collapsed on the third morning of the first Test against South Africa at SuperSport Park after Monday game was rained out. They responded, however, when South African captain Dean Elgar was dismissed in the first over of the hosts’ reply by Jasprit Bumrah.

After bowling out India for 327, South Africa was 21 for one at lunch. The second session saw more ferocious bowling from Indian pacers, who reduced the hosts to 32/4. Mohammed Shami struck twice, and Mohammed Siraj also made an early appearance in the wickets column.

After being rained out on Monday, India collapsed on the third morning of the first Test against South Africa at SuperSport Park. They responded, however, when South African captain Dean Elgar was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah in the first over of the hosts’ reply.

South Africa was 21 for one at lunch after bowling out India for 327. Indian pacers bowled more ferociously in the second session, reducing the hosts to 32/4. Mohammed Shami struck twice, and Mohammed Siraj was also among the first to take a wicket.

On other side, fast bowlers Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada each took three wickets as India could only add 55 runs to their overnight total of 272 for three. Ngidi finished with six for 71, while Rabada finished with three for 72.
