New Delhi: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar expressed a special message for Shikhar Dhawan following the latter’s announcement of his retirement from international and domestic cricket. Dhawan, who shared the news through a video on Instagram, received warm wishes from Tendulkar, Dinesh Karthik, and Jasprit Bumrah, all acknowledging his significant contributions to Indian cricket.
Tendulkar, in a heartfelt post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), highlighted Dhawan’s exuberant presence on the field. “The cricket field will surely miss your flamboyance, Shikhar Dhawan. Your smile, your style, and your love for the game have always been infectious,” Tendulkar wrote. He added, “As you turn the page on your cricketing career, know that your legacy is forever etched in the hearts of fans and teammates alike. Wishing you nothing but the best in whatever comes next. Keep smiling, Shikhar!”

Dinesh Karthik, reminiscing about his early days with Dhawan, praised the left-hander for his journey from the under-19 days to becoming one of India’s most successful openers. Jasprit Bumrah, another Indian cricket star, also shared his admiration for Dhawan, commending his remarkable achievements and wishing him success in his future endeavors.
Shikhar Dhawan, born in Delhi, made his international debut in 2010 against Australia during an ODI in Visakhapatnam. Although his debut wasn’t memorable, with a dismissal for a two-ball duck, Dhawan bounced back in 2013, securing his place across all three formats of the game with outstanding performances.
Over his illustrious career, Dhawan played 269 international matches, scoring 24 centuries—17 in ODIs and seven in Tests. His final appearance for India was during the ODI series against Bangladesh in December 2022, after which he lost his place to rising star Shubman Gill.
As Shikhar Dhawan steps away from international cricket, he leaves behind a legacy of elegance, determination, and joy on the field. His journey from a struggling debut to becoming one of India’s most dependable openers is a testament to his resilience and passion for the game.
Dhawan’s retirement marks the end of an era, but as Tendulkar aptly put it, his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of cricketers. The cricketing fraternity, along with millions of fans, now eagerly awaits Dhawan’s next chapter, confident that his infectious smile and positive spirit will shine through in whatever he chooses to pursue next.
