Ranchi, Dec. 30: A cargo ship met with an accident in the river Ganga in Sahibganj district on Friday morning around 8 AM where as many as six persons on the ship are feared to be missing.
A Madhya Pradesh-based company Dilip Buildcon was using this ship for the transportation of construction materials. The company is engaged in the construction of the bridge over river Ganga. The accident took place near the Garam ghat. The deputy commissioner of Sahibganj, Ramniwas Yadav. said that the accident took place as the ship got disbalanced due to a blast in one of the tyres of a truck on the board. The ship can carry 10 trucks at a time. As many as five trucks are said to have fallen in the river. The rescue operation is going on. The ship MV Infra Link is said to be owned by a Kolkata based businessman Yash Jalan. The ship was heading towards Manihari (Katihar) in Bihar.
Sheikh Bablu and Sheikh Rakabi who are the captains of the ill-fated ship said that the tyre of a truck carrying stone chips suddenly punctured due to which the ship tilted in one direction due to which trucks fell in the water. At least one person Sharfuddin Ansari (36) a native of Dhanbad has been identified among the missing persons.
This is the second ship accident in river Ganga in the last nine months. On March 24, an overloaded cargo ship carrying stones-chips laden trucks from Sahibganj to Katihar met with an accident. The BJP alleged powerful mining mafias are involved in illegal mining and transportation. As many as four persons died in this accident. It was alleged that the ship was illegally carrying stone chips to Bihar. The allegation was proved during the investigation by the Enforcement Directorate in the illegal stone mining case. The ED later on booked Pankaj Mishra, Dahu Yadav, Bacchu Yadav and others for running the ferry service for the purpose of illegal stone mining and transportation.
