New Delhi, Sep 22: Tamil Nadu government ministers Udhayanidhi Stalin, A Raja and 12 others were given a notice by the Supreme Court on Friday for remarks they made on Sanatana Dharma.
In response to Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comment to “eradicate Sanatan Dharma,” the court has issued a notice on a plea seeking an FIR. The petitioner mentioned a total of 14 parties in the plea. They consist of the CBI, the DGP, the police commissioner, various government departments from Tamil Nadu and others.
The court has served notice on the Tamil Nadu government, Udhayanidhi Stalin, the CBI, A Raja and other parties; and is looking for a response.
SC has declined to connect it to the hate speech case, though.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, stirred controversy on September 2 when he equated Sanatana Dharma to “dengue” and “malaria” and stated that it should be “eradicated” rather than just being opposed.
Sanatana dharma is opposed to social justice and equality, Udhayanidhi Stalin said while speaking at a “Sanatana Abolition Conference.”
“Few things cannot be opposed, that should be abolished only. We can’t oppose dengue, mosquitoes, malaria or corona. We have to eradicate this. That’s how we have to eradicate Sanatana,” he said.
“Rather than opposing Sanatana, it should be eradicated. The name Sanatana is from Sanskrit. It is against social justice and equality,” said Udhayanidhi Stalin, the DMK government’s minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development.
