Jamshedpur, May 3: The industrialists of Adityapur are up in arms against holding tax levied by the Adityapur Municipal Corporation.
President of Adityapur Small Industries Association ( ASIA ) Santosh Khaitan said implementation of holding tax is not justified in Adityapur industrial area as it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the corporation.
The Adityapur industrial area is facing myriad of problems.
The ground reality is that the entrepreneurs and industrialists cannot operate their plants and firms normally because of several problems arising both from the government side and villagers of surrounding areas.
A leading entrepreneur revealed that over 160 MSME owners are struggling to get the Date of Production (DOP) certificate from the industry department for the past 18 months.
“A new company that starts manufacturing products or an existing company that manufactures new products needs to have a permit for starting the production and many of us have been approaching the industry department in Ranchi for over a year and a half but have not received the certificate (permit) yet,” he said.
Another young entrepreneur said the single-window system of the industry department is not proving beneficial to the industries.
“For instance, online provisions for seeking NOC from the environment and pollution department for setting up or expansion of an industry is time-consuming,” the entrepreneur, who owns an ancillary unit, said.
Adding woes to their problems is the notice of the Adityapur Municipal Corporation AMC asking the factory owners to clear the holding tax dues worth around Rs 15 crore.
“We pay land tax, annual rent to the industry department, but the AMC is compelling us to pay holding tax,” an industrialist rued.
Other issues faced by the industries included dilapidated streets, potholed roads and clogged drains in different phases of the sprawling industrial area in Seraikela- Kharsawan district.
After the Covid restrictions were lifted, over 1,000 industries in Adityapur are struggling to revive their businesses and at this juncture, hand-holding from the industry department is what the entrepreneurs are expecting, pointed out an industry owner.
