Ranchi, May 2: Veteran independent legislator Saryu Roy is sceptical about a proper probe in the matter of allegation leveled against Chief Minister Hemant Soren by the BJP.
Roy expressed his skepticism during a press conference at his official residence when he was asked about his comment on the allegation of misuse of the official position by the chief minister.
“The allegation is like a storm in teacup. The Rules are clear. A proper probe should be done in the matter and action be taken. But it is my experience that in Jharkhand a probe is done but action is not taken,” Roy said.
Sharing the reason behind his belief, Roy said that the ACB has given its report in the matter of ‘Meinhardt’ and has almost completed a probe into ‘distribution of T-Shirt and toffee’ but so far action has not been taken.
“Allegations and counter-allegations should not be limited to newspapers and press conferences but go beyond that,” Roy added.
Sharing his opinion regarding the allegations, Roy said that only those living in glass houses in Jharkhand are pelting stones at each other’s houses.
“Chief Minister Hemant Soren has faced many allegations including allotment of mines, allotment of land in the name of wife. Allegations have been made against the Chief Minister in the mines allocation case. In such cases, the extent to which the states have been taken into confidence in the Code of Conduct implemented by the Centre has to be seen. It is expected that the chief minister should not do business, but if he does, then there is no clear rule and law regarding whether punishment should be given or not. There should be a clear law for such matters,” Roy said.
Roy, on the occasion, hinted at a legal course of action in the matter of corruption after May 21.
“On March 21, when I raised a question about Meinhardt and distribution of T Shirt and Toffee in the assembly, there was an assurance from the government that action would be taken in two months. More than a month has passed, but so far nothing has happened. I would wait till May 21, after which I would be free to move the court,” Roy said.
