New Delhi, July 20: The Supreme Court on Wednesday, postponed a hearing on the BCCI’s petition to change its constitution to extend the terms of its office bearers, including President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah.
Senior attorney Harish Salve, who was representing the BCCI, asked for the matter to be postponed, and a bench consisting of Chief Justice N V Ramana, Justices Krishna Murari, and Hima Kohli agreed to do so.
According to the attorney for the Bihar Cricket Association, technically, office holders are still in their positions after their mandates have finished.
“Tomorrow! one day nothing will happen! What is the hurry? the bench said.
Subramanian Swamy, a BJP politician, also showed up in the case and tried to implicate himself. The bench had previously decided to include BCCI’s petition for an urgent hearing. The cricket organisation wants to change the constitution so that officeholders can serve longer terms.
The BCCI’s senior attorney PS Patwalia said that their motion had been submitted two years prior and that the court had instructed them to get the matter listed within two weeks.
