New Delhi, May 8: In response to the former MP Anand Mohan’s early release from prison, the Supreme Court on Monday sent notice to the Bihar government.
Anand Mohan, who was given a life sentence for the murder of IAS official G Krishnaiah, was granted freedom from Saharsa jail last month as a result of a change in Bihar’s prison regulations.
The top court’s instruction came while it was deliberating a petition filed by Uma Krishnaiah, the widow of the murdered IAS officer, protesting the politician-gangster’s premature release.]
A group of central civil service employees had earlier expressed “deep dismay” at the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government’s decision to change the prison regulations that released Anand Mohan, claiming it “tantamounted to denial of justice.”
The early release of Anand Mohan had sparked a political brawl, with the opposition parties accusing the restoration of the “jungle-raj” in Bihar. The state government maintains that Mohan was freed from prison in accordance with the established guidelines.
